8th Grade Boys & Girls Wrestling
Start Date: Monday April 13th, 2015
Practice Times: Monday-Friday 4:30-6:00pm
Where: Lamar Wrestling Room located in the back of Turing Point Junior High School 2209 North Davis Dr. Arlington TX 76012
Transportation will be provided from the Junior High between 3:55-4:05 pm to the Lamar Wrestling Room. Parents must provide transportation home. All Athletes must be picked up no later than 6:15pm
Athletes must have a current AISD physical packet on file. All athletes are able to participate in practice but must meet eligibility requirements of "NO PASS, NO PLAY" to compete in the weekly round robins and the district tournament.
It is strongly encouraged that athletes purchase wrestling shoes. All other gear will be provided.
Emphasis will be placed on learning high percentage takedown techniques. Leg attack set-ups and finishes will be taught thoroughly in an easy to understand fashion,
From the bottom position, the primary focus will be on stand-up, the safest and most effective method of scoring from the bottom. Other escapes and mat wrestling will be covered as well.
From the top position, we will teach a series of different rides, breakdowns and turns.
All the different skills and techniques taught will be drilled repetitively, so athletes can learn them, remember them and be able to perform them in live matches. We will structure drills to help athletes become the best wrestler they can be.
The Schedule is yet to be published. We will have practice for three weeks. During weeks four to six we will participate in round robin competition. During week seven we will have the District Tournament.
